Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage within the pulp of a tooth. Here's an overview of the process:Diagnosis: The dentist examines the tooth and uses X-rays to determine the extent of damage or infection in the pulp.Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area around the tooth being treated, ensuring the patient's comfort during the procedure.Access: The dentist creates an opening in the tooth to access the pulp chamber and canals.Cleaning and Shaping: Using small instruments, the dentist removes the infected or damaged pulp tissue from the pulp chamber and canals. The canals are then shaped to prepare them for filling.Filling: After cleaning and shaping the canals, they are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha to seal them and prevent re-infection. The access opening is also sealed with a temporary or permanent filling.Restoration: In some cases, a dental crown may be placed on the treated tooth to restore its strength, function, and appearance.
